Manager Cost Accounting
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cost Accountant is primarily responsible for maintaining accurate inventory accounts, preparing journal entries related to inventory, reporting material and labor variances, controlling the indirect labor run number usage, assisting in the setting of standards and performing duties related to inventory and cost accounting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensuring the accuracy of standard cost fields in the product master.
- Ensuring the accuracy of inventory transactions which affect the general ledger and those that affect the perpetual records.
- Reconciling perpetual records to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Obtaining data related to production, cost of goods sold and other transactions affecting the general ledger and making the appropriate journal entries.
- Maintaining a subsidiary ledger to track material and labor used by production run numbers and recording the appropriate variances.
- Tracking actual usage by production run numbers and comparing to the standard allowed.
- Tracking other usage of material not related to vendor production and reporting such usage.
- Preparing weekly summaries of labor used in the plant and distributing to management.
- Providing the manufacturing departments with run numbers when warranted.
- Assigning the appropriate general ledger number.
- Ensuring the usage of indirect run numbers is not abused.
- Reporting labor hours used on indirect run numbers on a weekly basis.
- Timely and accurate filing of internal operating packages.
- Communicating with purchasing and other areas to gather and evaluate data.
- Reviewing new material standards to ensure accuracy and compliance standard setting policies.
- Assisting in the physical inventory procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or Accounting, preferred.
Experience:
- 3+ years experience in production, purchasing, labor usage and material usage data gathering and reporting in a manufacturing site.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Proficient in the knowledge and use of MS Office (Word, Excel).
