Software Quality Assurance Engineer

 


POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Software Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for design and execution of test plans to verify that system functionality matches its intended requirements.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with software and electrical engineers to fully understand desired system functionality.
  • Work with managers of test engineering and electronics to develop software verification & validation test strategies for products.
  • Design combination of automated and manual test scripts for verifying system functionality.
  • Lead team of SQA Technicians and schedule test executions with SQA Technicians and other verification resources.
  • Participate in new product development team and project planning effort to develop parallel product development and product verification work streams
  • Prepare proposals for small to medium test projects, to include cost estimates and resource allocation.
  • Provide expertise & leadership in development and maintenance of software defect lifecycle definition, a global software defect database, and processes around management of issues that arise during testing. Conduct defect review meetings as needed and provide written summary of all releases submitted to the SQA laboratory.
  • Maintain meticulous records regarding test result data, driving issues found during verification to root cause.
  • Assist software engineering team with ad hoc prerelease integration testing, as needed by the project.
  • Basic working knowledge of serial computer networking or communication protocols. Experience operating serial protocol capture and analysis tools.
  • Develop or assist in the development of test applications and interface simulators, as required.
  • Train new employees on CMS verification practice and SQA technician job functions.
  • Maintain focus on continuous improvement through researching and sourcing innovative, cost-efficient business solutions and making recommendations to upper management.
  • Adhere to all Company policies, safeguard the company's interests and act in an ethical and legal manner as well as report all violations of Company policies and procedures to appropriate management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • 0-2 years experience in a product development environment, preferably in a software engineering or software test position.
  • Thorough knowledge of, or experience in, organization and conduct of detailed product testing and functional verification of systems.
  • Working knowledge of, or experience with, microcontroller based embedded systems.
  • Fundamentals of software development with basic programming skills.
  • Thorough understanding of standard test procedures and standard work definitions.
  • Fundamentals of database concepts and fundamentals of database query design.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
  • Proven analytical skills and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
