POSITION SUMMARY:
The Design Engineer is responsible for complex design assignments of a subsystem or product line.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide multiple design options to the engineering work cell, (mechanical engineer, design engineer and test engineer), on assigned subsystems or product. Participate on the project team as required.
- Complete solid models of all designs including sheet metal and plastic parts.
- Integrate subsystem design with those of others in a large scope development project.
- Evaluate test results and/or field feedback and improve the designs as necessary to achieve optimum customer satisfaction and cost.
- Assure DFM by working with the OPEX team and Value Stream Manager during the design phase and minimizing part count. Assure part standardization.
- Perform basic analysis to ensure the form, fit, and function of mating parts and complete assemblies.
- Develop bills of material and product cost using PDM, (Solid Works). Assure transfer of part numbers and BOM’s into the ERP system.
- Assist or lead work cell in problem identification, correction and verification on assigned subsystem or product line.
- Provide support for new products through new hardware solutions. Present and recommend alternative solutions by examining such criteria as make-versus-buy, reusing existing hardware/software versus new designs, cost versus benefits, reliability, scheduling, etc.
- Participate in manufacturing Kaizen events to improve the value stream.
- Participate in departmental Kaizen events to improve processes and or products as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- Zero to three years experience in a technical environment preferably in a design role.
- Capable in designing of molded parts, sheet metal parts, and assemblies.
- Reasonable knowledge of various types of manufacturing equipment and the limitations.
- Experience with SolidWorks, preferred.
- Experience with LabView or similar testing programs desirable
- Good understanding of standard design practices.
- Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proven analytical skills.
- Proficient in the knowledge and use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience in LEAN environment, a plus.
- Good oral and written communication skills are required.
